Survey on 17/11/13 - Kallang River @ Bishan Park

Drizzling lightly today when we started. At pt.1, oily sheen on water surface from upstream and at side of canal. At pt.2, spotted some aquatic birds like white breasted waterhen and little egret. Many fishes in water and tortoise/terrapin in water.Walking upstream saw murky/milk -coloured water flowing from HDB estate into the river, source unknown. At pt 3, sighted more birds including white breasted waterhen, lttle egret and little heron! Pink snail eggs sighted too. Noted litter such as plastic bags, bottles, water packets, clothes peg near or in the river. Took group pic, missing our team leader Martina as she has to work. Overall a good day with many birds sighted!

HSBC Water Programme - Citizen Science Leader

Past experiences of having water shortages and rationing always make me ask myself if there will be enough water for our future generation and what I can contribute in sustaining our water supply.

So, when HSBC Malaysia invited its staff to volunteer in becoming a Citizen Science Leader under the HSBC Water Programme, I jumped at the opportunity. And I was very excited knowing that I was accepted a one of the first group of volunteers.

Okhla Bird Sanctuary drained off....

I was surprised to see Okhla Bird Sanctuary on Friday on my routine visits to the place. Usually a flodded area behind a barrage, today was almost dry with small puddles and pools of water scattered here and there. After inquiring about it, it appeared that the water had been drained off for repairing and maintenance of the barrage.
